GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BREAKS FROM CONFERENCE PLAY FOR MATCHUP AGAINST NEW HAVEN

2/15/2023 8:00:00 AM

West Haven, CT - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team takes a break from conference play as they visit the Chargers of the University of New Haven tonight at 5:30.  The Dolphins come in to today's game with a 9-15 record on the year and the Chargers enter tonight's matchup 15-8.  The Chargers have won both meetings between the two teams including an overtime thriller at The Tank early last season.

The Dolphins last played on Saturday against Molloy University with an opportunity to clinch the first postseason berth since the program moved to NCAA Division II.  For much of the first three quarters the Dolphins offense struggled, but ultimately a late CSI comeback bid would fall just short in the closing seconds of a 44-39 defeat.  New Haven was last in action on Saturday as well when they took on #18 Assumption on the road.  The Chargers lost by sixteen to the ranked Greyhounds to snap a nine-game winning streak.

Jenalyse Alarcon had one of the best games of her career last time she faced the Chargers finishing with 15 points and 21 rebounds when these two teams met last season.  Gia Esposito also had a big game scoring 18 points behind four three-pointers.  A late offensive drought for the Dolphins helped the Chargers to force overtime and the Dolphins were outscored 11-3 in the extra period.  Of the returning Chargers, Cameron DeBose led the team in scoring against the Dolphins last season with 18 points.  This season, she leads New Haven averaging 15.7 points per game.  Aurora Deshaies finished one rebound shy of a double-double against CSI last season and is averaging 13.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season.  The Dolphins will be tasked with slowing down a New Haven offense that shoots 44% from the field while contending with a defense that allows opponents just 37% shooting from the field.

Gametime - 5:30 PM
Location - West Haven, CT
All-Time Series - New Haven leads, 2-1
Last Meeting - 11/17/21:  New Haven won, 72-64
