DOLPHINS PUNCH TICKET TO PLAYOFFS WITH WIN OVER REDHAWKS IN SEASON FINALE

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team punched their ticket to the East Coast Conference playoffs earlier today as they defeated the Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks, 64-58.  The Dolphins finish the regular season 10-18 overall and 6-10 against the East Coast Conference.  With the loss, the Redhawks finish the year with a 4-19 overall record and a 3-12 mark in conference play.

The Dolphins got off to a strong start in the opening quarter and led by double-digits for the first time at the 3:41 mark of the first period.  The Redhawks finally snapped a 10-0 CSI run with a free throw, but the Dolphins proceeded to score the next five and took a fourteen-point lead.  After going over eight minutes without a field goal, the Redhawks finally ended their offensive drought with a basket early in the second.  The make brought them back to within single-digits for a short time, but the Dolphins would ultimately take a thirteen-point lead into halftime.

Early in the third, Danielle DiCintio brought the Redhawks back to within nine with a make from beyond the arc.  However, the Dolphins responded with their second 10-0 run of the game to go ahead by nineteen points.  The three by DiCintio to open the quarter was the first of her three triples in the period, and her outside shooting would propel the Redhawks back to within nine heading into the fourth.  Elizabeth Lofaro would score the first four points of the final quarter for the Dolphins to give them some more breathing room, but the Redhawks simply would not go away.  With under 90 seconds remaining, Dicintio connected on another three, her sixth, to make it a four-point game.  Gia Esposito answered with a clutch mid-range jumper to put CSI ahead by six, and the Dolphins were able to close out the win from the free-throw line.

Ashley Lambert and Gia Esposito were tied for the team lead in scoring with 15 points each and Noemia Massingue registered an 11-point, 16-rebound double-double.  The 16 rebounds were a career-high for Massingue, and Espositio has now scored 15 or more in three straight games.  Lambert was also in double-figures for the seventh time in her last nine games.  DiCintio was responsible for nearly half of the Roberts Wesleyan offense as she finished with 28 points on 6-10 from three-point range.  No other Redhawk scored in double-figures and the Dolphins once again turned in a solid effort defensively.

The Dolphins have qualified for the East Coast Conference playoffs in their first season of postseason eligibility as an NCAA Division II program.  They will travel alongside the Men's Basketball Team as both squads will head back to Washington D.C. to face the University of the District of Columbia.
