BASEBALL PICKS UP SWEEP OF DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY IN SUNDAY DOUBLEHEADER

Nyack, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team faced the Chargers of Dominican University in a doubleheader earlier today and earned their first two-game sweep of the young season. The Dolphins took the win in game one by a final score of 5-2 and defeated the Chargers 6-3 in the second of the two games. With the pair of victories, the Dolphins move to 5-8 on the season.  The Chargers remain winless since their season-opener and finish the day with a 1-13 record.

GAME 1
The Chargers wasted no time getting on the board and took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  They added another run in the second to make it a two-run game, but this is all of the offense they would muster against Dolphins starter Christian Rice.  After falling behind by two, the Dolphins scored three in the third behind a Nick Cippoletti RBI double, a stolen base, and John Castiglione single.  This gave the Dolphins their first lead of the game and they never looked back from there.  Michael Kehoe increased the CSI lead by one with a fourth-inning solo home run and Cippoletti added a solo shot of his own in the seventh.  As for the Chargers, they only registered two hits in the final five innings of the game, and the Dolphins took the win 5-2.

GAME 2
The Chargers scored a first-inning run for the second consecutive game in game two, but the Dolphins quickly tied the score on a sacrifice fly in the next half-inning.  The Chargers immediately took the lead back in the bottom half of the second before the Dolphins scored five unanswered runs.  Vincent Weigele put CSI in front for good with a two-run homer in the third and the Dolphins went on to add three insurance runs in the seventh.  The Chargers would load the bases in the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but Aidan Kielty come in to record the final two outs and pick up the save in a 6-3 Dolphins win.

Rice and Steven Collica each earned a win on the day and both pitched at least five innings in their start.  Kehoe and Cippoletti each had two hits in game one and combined to drive in three of the five CSI runs.  In game two, Shendi Ulaj had three hits for the Dolphins and Weigele went 2-4 with two RBI's.

Weather permitting, the Dolphins will host their first game of the season at the CSI Baseball Complex on Wednesday when they are scheduled to face Goldey-Beacom College.
