BASEBALL BOUNCES BACK FROM ONE-RUN LOSS WITH DECISIVE WIN TO EARN SPLIT OF DOUBLEHEADER VS GRIFFINS

Philadelphia, PA – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team played their final games before a week off earlier today and earned a doubleheader split against Chesnut Hill College.  After coming up one run short in the final inning of a 4-3 loss, the Dolphins earned a decisive win in game two by a final score of 9-2.  With the split, CSI moved to 6-9 on the season and Chestnut Hill ends the day 5-11.

GAME 1
The Dolphins got on the board first in game one with an RBI double off the bat of A.J. Vigliotti.  However, the Griffins got even in their first turn at bat to even the score at 1-1.  Neither team would score again until the fourth when Michael Kehoe continued his hot start to the season with an RBI double that scored Vincent Weigele.  Once again the Griffins answered in the next half inning with the tying run, and Chestnut Hill would go on to score three unanswered across the next three innings.  This put CSI behind by two entering the seventh, but the Dolphins would quickly mount a threat in the final inning.  Following a leadoff walk, Kehoe singled and a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with just one out.  A groundout made it a one-run game and moved the tying run to third soon after, but Domenick Castiglione flew out to right for the final out of a 4-3 loss.

GAME 2
After making the final out in game one, Castiglione delivered a home run in the first inning of game two that put the Dolphins ahead for good.  Leading 1-0, the Dolphins scored three more in the third before a two-run homer by Vigliotti made it 6-0 in the fourth.  Kehoe then doubled in the first of three CSI runs in the sixth, and the Dolphins finished the inning ahead 9-0.  This was more than enough run support for CSI starter Ryan Kehoe who went the distance in a 12-strikeout performance.  The Griffins would only score twice against Kehoe with both runs coming in the seventh inning of a 9-2 Dolphins win.

It was another big day at the plate for Kehoe who had four hits and two RBI's across the two games.  In game two, Castiglione went 2-2 with a pair of walks and an RBI which came on his first-inning solo shot.  Both Nick Cippoletti and Shendi Ulaj had two hits in the nine-run effort as well.  Lastly, Vigliotti had two hits and three RBI's across the two games as he continued the strong start to his freshman campaign.  In addition to the complete game victory for Kehoe in game two, John Esposito went the distance in the game one loss.  In six innings, Esposito allowed 7 hits, struck out 6, and surrendered just 2 earned runs.  Though this wasn't enough to pick up the win, the outing represents another quality start for the Dolphins ace.

The Dolphins will have a week off ahead of their next scheduled games as they open their conference schedule on the road next Friday against Queens College.  The first of four games against the Knights will be played in Flushing on Friday before the Dolphins host a doubleheader on Saturday.  On Sunday, the two teams will wrap up the four-game set with another single game in Flushing.
