ESPOSITO COMPLETE GAME VICTORY EARNS DOLPHINS SPLIT OF DOUBLEHEADER VS QUEENS

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team took the field at the CSI Baseball Complex for the first time this season earlier today and earned a split of their doubleheader against Queens College.  After a ten-run loss in game one, the Dolphins bounced back to win game two behind a complete game effort from John Esposito.  With the split, the Dolphins finish the day 7-11 overall and 1-2 against the East Coast Conference.  The Knights end play 13-5 on the year and 2-1 in conference play.

GAME 1
The Knights got on the board quickly in the first inning and jumped out to a 2-0 lead against CSI starter Christian Rice.  The next score would come in third when an Anthony Sutera RBI single would cut the Queens lead in half.  Leading 2-1, the Knights responded with a four spot in the fourth behind a pair of RBI doubles and a bases loaded walk.  Now trailing by five, the Dolphins plated another run in the sixth on a Vincent Weigele RBI single to make it 6-2.  The next half-inning saw the Knights put up nine more runs to break the game wide open, and the Dolphins would not get within striking distance again.  Only one more run was scored the rest of the way and the Knights took the win by a final score of 15-5.

GAME 2
After CSI starter John Esposito stranded two in scoring position in the first inning, the Dolphins scored all three of their runs in the bottom half of that inning.  After a Domenick Castiglione single and two walks loaded the bases with one out, Shendi Ulaj delivered an RBI double into the right-center field gap.  However, a second runner attempting to score on the extra-base hit was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the inning.  With two away, a single by Weigele plated two more runs and put the Dolphins ahead 3-0.  For Esposito, this was all the run support he would need.  The Dolphins senior worked his way out of multiple jams over the course of the first six innings and took the mound for the seventh with his team leading 3-0.  After recording the first two outs, back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases before an RBI base hit made it 3-1.  With the bases still loaded, Esposito recorded the final out on a ground ball to earn the complete game victory as the Dolphins defeated the Knights 3-1.

Weigele led the way for the Dolphins offensively finishing the day with four hits and three RBI's across the two games.  Shendi Ulaj had two hits in game two as well and delivered the first-inning go-ahead RBI base hit that gave CSI the lead for good.  Esposito earned his second win of the season with his complete game effort and he finished with 10 strikeouts.  The Dolphins win in game two snapped an eight-game win streak for Queens and ended a streak of seven consecutive wins for the Knights against CSI.

The Dolphins and Knights will wrap up their four-game series tomorrow in Flushing as the two sides will meet for the fourth and final time this season at 3:00 PM.
