BASEBALL DROPS SERIES FINALE TO KNIGHTS, 11-3

Flushing, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team dropped the final game of their four-game set against Queens College earlier today as they fell to the Knights by a final score of 11-3.  The loss drops the Dolphins to 7-12 on the season and they are now 1-3 in conference play.  The Knights improve to 14-5 overall and 3-1 against conference opponents.

The Knights immediately jumped out to a sizable lead and never looked back as they scored seven times in the first inning on five base hits.  The Knights then added two more runs in the second to go ahead by nine before the Dolphins scored for the first time two innings later in the fourth.  The Knights got that run back in the bottom of the same inning, and neither team scored again until the seventh.  A.J. Vigliotti plated a pair with a 2-RBI single to make it 10-3, but this would be the last time the Dolphins would score.  Queens would score one final time in the bottom of the inning and would go on to win by a final score of 11-3.

No Dolphin had multiple hits in the game, and the biggest blow dealt by the CSI offense came on the 2-RBI single by Vigliotti.  Bryan Birkhead also drove in the first Dolphins run with an RBI single int the fourth.  Dolphins pitchers combined to allow eleven runs, but seven of those were surrendered in the first inning.  The rest of the way, CSI pitching only allowed four runs on nine hits.  The CSI bullpen was even better allowing just three runs, two earned, during the final seven innings of the game.

The Dolphins will begin another conference series on Friday when they host Molloy University at the CSI Baseball Complex.  First pitch on Friday will be at 3:30.
