MOLLOY TAKES TWO FROM CSI IN CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team took the field against the Molloy University Lions for a doubleheader at the CSI Baseball Complex earlier today and suffered a pair of defeats.  The losses drop the Dolphins to 8-14 overall and 2-5 against the East Coast Conference.  The two victories improve Molloy to 18-10 on the year and 5-1 against conference opponents.

GAME 1
The Lions scored first in the opening inning to go in front 2-0, but the Dolphins responded with a run of their own in the home first inning. After leaving the bases loaded and settling for just one run in the first, CSI would score the next two runs to go in front 3-2.  However, this would be the last time the Dolphins would score.  The Lions went on to score the final ten runs of the game behind a sixteen-hit performance as they took the win over CSI, 12-3.

GAME 2
As the road team in game two, the Dolphins struck first with three runs before the Lions ever came to bat.  Molloy would get one back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Dolphins would score the next three runs, one in the second and two in the fourth.  Trailing 6-1, the Lions got two runs closer in the bottom half of the fourth to make it a three-run game.  Another Molloy run in the fifth cut the CSI lead to two, but a Tylor Martinez RBI single put CSI ahead 7-4.

Entering the seventh with a three-run lead, Dolphins starter John Esposito remained in the game looking for a complete game victory.  However, three base hits and a run coming home forced Esposito out of the game in favor of reliever Alex Martinez.  Moments later, Jake McCarthy made it a one-run game with an RBI single.  A walk and a sacrifice fly then evened the score at 7-7 sending the game to extra innings.  It wasn't until the tenth that the winning run came home to score as the Lions walked it off with an inside the park home run by Gavin McAlonie.

After finishing with just six hits in game one, the Dolphin bats came to life in game two.  Leading the way at the plate was A.J. Vigliotti who finished 5-5.  Shendi Ulaj had a three-hit game as well and Tylor Martinez drove in two runs.  On the mound, Esposito came within two outs of a complete game, but he was ultimately charged with 6 earned runs in 6.1 innings.  Martinez suffered the loss in a 54-pitch relief effort.

The Dolphins wrap up their series with the Lions on the road tomorrow as they head to Rockville Centre for a 3:30 matchup.
