DOLPHINS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH SAINTS ON EVE OF SEASON FINALE

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team continued their four-game series with the D'Youville University Saints earlier today and earned a split of a doubleheader on the eve of the season finale.  The Dolphins suffered the loss in game one by a final score of 11-3 and responded with a 5-2 victory in game two.  With the split of today's games, the Dolphins move to 17-25 on the season and 9-14 in conference play.  The Saints finish the day 19-24 on the season and 9-12 against the conference.  With the loss in game one, the Dolphins were eliminated from postseason contention as they could no longer finish ahead of Mercy College in the ECC standings.

GAME 1
The Saints got on the board early and often against CSI starter John Esposito scoring twice in the first and four more times in the second.  With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the first, back-to-back RBI hits brought home the first two runs of the game.  After the Dolphins got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, the Saints scored four times in the second behind three hits and a pair of CSI errors.  Now trailing 6-1, three consecutive two-out hits brought the Dolphins back to within three runs in the third inning.  AJ Vigliotti got the rally started with an RBI triple and a single by Vincent Weigele chased home another CSI run to make the score 6-3.  However, the Saints responded with two more runs in the fourth, and the Dolphins would not score again the rest of the way.  D'Youville finished the game with five unanswered runs and eliminated the Dolphins from playoff contention with an 11-3 victory.

GAME 2
The Dolphins once again fell behind in the first inning of game two as the Saints scored the game's first run without the benefit of a single hit.  This time, the Dolphins were able to take the lead early, and they did not fall behind again.  John Castiglione tied the game with a single down the left field line and a Nick Cippoletti sacrifice fly gave the Dolphins their first lead, 2-1.  Michael Crocco extended the lead to a pair with another RBI hit and Weigele chased home two more with an RBI double in the third.  Trailing 5-1, the Saints did not score a second time until the sixth when a Jeremy Glinski RBI single brought the Saints back to within three.  This would be the final time D'Youville would score in the game, and the Dolphins bullpen held on to secure a 5-2 victory.

Vigliotti, Thomas Marten and Angel Santiago each had two hits in game one and Weigele went 3-3 with two RBI in game two.  Christian Rice earned his fourth win of the season in his game two start, and John Esposito took the loss in his final start as a Dolphin.  Esposito, along with ten other CSI seniors will be recognized ahead of tomorrow's 12 PM first pitch.  Tune in to CSI Sportsnet for complete coverage of the Senior Day ceremony or join us at the CSI Baseball Complex as we celebrate CSI's seniors.
