WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS ECC COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

6/30/2023 10:00:00 AM

It was announced yesterday that the College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team has won the 2023 ECC Community Engagement Award of Excellence.  The award is presented at the conclusion of each year to a program that participates in activities which embody the principles of community engagement by building relationships and bridging the gap between campus and community.  Women's Basketball was presented this year's award for their work with Project Hospitality.  Working with the organization, the team helped prepare, store, and distribute meals for underprivileged families in Staten Island.  The award comes with a $500 grant from the ECC to be used towards community efforts during the upcoming season.

In addition to extending the program's outreach into the local Staten Island community, Women's Basketball also hosted community-based events during their home games this past season.  Working with the Go4TheGoal Foundation, the team helped raise funds to support the organization's battle against childhood cancer during their November 27, 2022 matchup with Pace University.  Later in the season, the team's game against Queens served as Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night at The Tank.  The Dolphins were joined on the court pregame by the Holy Rosary 3rd Grade Girl's Basketball Team before members of the local and campus community were recognized at halftime of the game against the Knights.
