WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS SECOND STRAIGHT WITH LOSS TO MERCY, 2-1

Dobbs Ferry, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team suffered their second consecutive loss in conference play earlier today as they fell to the Mercy University Mavericks 2-1.  The Dolphins are now 0-2 against the ECC and are 2-2-3 on the season.  The Mavericks remain unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-1 and are 3-2-2 on the year.  With the win, the Mavericks remain perfect against the Dolphins in three matches as well.

The Dolphins did not register a shot in the first half, but goalkeeper Sara Villacres was able to keep her team in the game with a stellar performance during the first 45 minutes.  Prior to halftime, Villacres faced six shots on target and saved them all to keep the game scoreless entering the intermission.  In addition to the six shots, the Dolphins also had to contend with seven Mercy corner kicks, but they were able to reach the break without allowing a goal.

The Mavericks opened the scoring exactly 15 minutes into the second half when Madison Rosa broke the scoreless tie with her second goal of the season.  Just moments later on their second shot attempt of the match, CSI netted the equalizer when Jacquelyn D'Amico scored for the second time this season.  However, the Mavericks would make it three goals scored in just over 11 minutes when they took the lead back on Maleah Tarin's third score of the year.  The Mavericks would attempt another four shots across the final 19 minutes, but would not score again.  The Dolphins would not attempt another shot following their goal and would ultimately go on to lose by a final score of 2-1.

For the Dolphins, Villacres made 9 saves on 11 shots on goal while Kamy Anaya allowed one goal against just two shots on target.  The CSI goal was the first scored by an ECC opponent against the Mavericks this season.  Following today's result, Mercy has now outscored conference opponents by an 11-1 margin across three conference contests.

The Dolphins host a conference game at Dolphins Soccer Park for the first time this season on Saturday when they take on Queens College at 11:00 AM.  It will be Staten Island Soccer Club Day as the Dolphins welcome in a local club team for the second time this season.
