Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYS CUNY RIVAL QUEENS TO SCORELESS DRAW

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team returned home this morning for a conference matchup with CUNY rival Queens College.  With both teams in search of their first win in conference play, neither side registered a goal in a scoreless tie.  The Dolphins are now 2-2-4 on the season while the Knights end the day 3-4-2.  Both teams are now 0-2-1 against the East Coast Conference.

It was a strong start for the Knights who controlled possession and attempted the first three shots of the game in the opening minutes.  However, only one of those three attempts was on goal, and the Dolphins were able to bounce back from the sluggish beginning.  CSI went on to attempt the final five shots of the first half, including two each by Kolleen Rodriguez and Isabella Radovini, to put the pressure on Queens.  The Dolphins were unable to convert on any of those chances, but they went into the break with the statistical advantage in shots, shots on goal, corners, and fouls drawn.

Following the intermission, the Knights saw their halftime adjustments pay off.  Two of their first three shots were on target forcing CSI goalkeeper Sara Villacres to make her second and third saves.  The attacking pressure from the Knights continued until the final seconds when they earned a free kick in the attacking third.  Following the free kick, the Dolphins gained possession and Adriana Melgar brought the ball in toward the penalty area.  She then found a streaking Rodriguez open and played her through for a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper.  Unfortunately for the Dolphins, the shot that followed sailed wide ending the game in a scoreless tie.

Both Villacres and Knights goalkeeper Erin Kelly earned the clean sheet for their teams and both sides finished the game with 8 shots.  Radovini led all players with 4 shots and both Rodriguez and Julia Ragone finished with 3.  10 Dolphins played the full 90 minutes in the match as CSI used just a single substitution in the game.

CSI will next be in action one week from today when they host another conference match against Roberts Wesleyan.
