Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

ALARCON LEADS DOLPHINS TO WIN OVER ROBERTS WESLEYAN, 75-63

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team picked up a key conference win earlier tonight as they defeated the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University, 75-63.  The Dolphins improve to 7-12 on the year with the victory and move to 4-5 in conference play.  The loss drops the Redhawks to 1-6 against the ECC and 5-10 on the season.  The win also extends CSI's lead in the all-time series to 4-1.

Jenalyse Alarcon and the Dolphins put together one of their best offensive quarters of the season to open the game and never looked back as CSI scored 24 in the first period.  Alarcon scored 7 of the first 10 CSI points and Dana Phelan added a pair of early threes to put the Dolphins in front 13-8.  Elizabeth Lofaro added another basket from beyond the arc to make it 16-8 and CSI would go on to allow just two points in the final 5:15 of the quarter.

Alarcon continued her offensive dominance in the second quarter and the Dolphins extended the lead beyond 20 for the first time less than three minutes into the period.  The lead was trimmed to 14 by halftime, but CSI would keep RWU at arms-length the rest of the way.  The Redhawks worked their way back to within 7 on multiple occasions in the third, but they could not get any closer than that.  Leading by 8 with 3:41 to go, the Dolphins would close the door from the free-throw line on their way to a 12-point victory.

In addition to her 26 points, Alarcon grabbed 13 rebounds to register her fourth double-double of the season.  Phelan, Ashley Lambert and Kyra Rose all joined her in scoring in double-figures, and Kaia Johnson came two assists shy of a double-double.  Defensively, the Dolphins held the Redhawks to sub-40% shooting from the field.

The Dolphins will play the last of three consecutive conference road games on Friday when they visit D'Youville University at 3:00 PM.  That game will serve as a makeup of a game that was previously postponed due to inclement weather in Buffalo last month.
