10/12/2024 3:30:00 PM

Newark, NJ - The College of Staten Island Cross-Country Team took part in a packed meet today at the NJIT Highlander XC Challenge.  Competing in the meet for the sixth time in program history, the CSI men placed 19th among 31 teams.  Competing for the seventh time in the history of the Women's Cross-Country program, the CSI women placed 21st among the 31 competing programs.  Most notably, it was a record-breaking performance for Wayne Stephenson who posted the best 8K time in program history.  His time of 27:03.1 bested the previous record by eighteen seconds, a record which was set by Andrew Scharf in 2015.  Prior to that, CSI Athletics Hall of Famer Jeff Benjamin held the all-time record in the 8K.  However, his time was achieved in 1983 long before the reboot of the Men's Cross-Country program in 2007.

In the women's meet, Alexandrea Jackson set the pace for the Dolphins with a time of 23:06.1 in the 5K.  Following closely behind her were both Elizabeth Nicotra and Adonijah Washington with times of 23:40.9 and 24:19.4 respectively.  Mary-Lee Mitchell and Mellanie Islas rounded out a squad of five runners for the CSI women posting times of 27:35.4 and 28:45.3.
