Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

DOLPHINS FALL ONE GOAL SHORT ON SENIOR DAY AGAINST D'YOUVILLE

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team fell one goal short on Senior Day in their match against D'Youville University as the Saints defeated the Dolphins, 2-1.  After falling behind in the opening minutes, the Dolphins got even on an Isabella Radovini goal.  However, the Saints struck for the game's final goal in the 63rd minute as they went on to defeat the Dolphins, 2-1.  With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 0-9-3 and 0-5-1 against the ECC.  The Saints earn their first win to improve to 1-8-2 overall and 1-4-0 against the conference.

The Dolphins surrendered the game's first goal just over five minutes after kickoff when a ball landed in heavy traffic near the CSI goal.  With two Dolphins plus their goalkeeper Sara Villacres in the area, the ball bounced through a mass of bodies and found the back of the net with the goal credited to Lovisa Nilsson.  The 1-0 Saints lead would stand for over 30 minutes, but the Dolphins delivered a response off the foot of one of their seniors.  Well outside the box, Radovini sent a long strike over Katie Liljenquist and in for the first CSI goal.  This leveled the score and sent the game to the half tied at 1-1.

It took the Saints seventeen minutes to regain their one-goal advantage once the second half began.  After a series of quality corner kicks, it was ultimately a fourth corner that finally led to the second D'Youville goal.  The corner, taken by Gallgaher, set up Melia La for a header straight into the back of the net.  The 2-1 score would ultimately stand all the way until the final horn as the Dolphins managed just three shots during the final 28 minutes.

Radovini led the Dolphins with three shots and both Jenna Como and Caitlyn Thompson added two shots.  Injured senior Nadia Evola also took the pitch at home for the final time as she kicked off the game for CSI before exiting in the opening seconds.  Fellow seniors, Villacres, Como, Kelly Buckley, Arielle Uy, and Emily Albano all played the full 90 minutes.  Megan Meagher, another senior, played 50 minutes, and Isabela Castro, the last active senior, played 37.   In net, Villacres came one save shy of yet another double-digit save performance in goal.

The Dolphins will play their conference finale on Wednesday night when they visit Molloy University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
