Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

SECOND HALF COMEBACK NOT ENOUGH TO GET DOLPHINS PAST REDHAWKS IN 83-74 LOSS

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team lost their second consecutive conference game earlier tonight as they fell to Roberts Wesleyan University, 83-74.  The Dolphins fall to 12-8 on the year with a 6-3 record in conference play.  The Redhawks improve to 7-9 overall and 4-3 against the ECC.  The win also gives Roberts Wesleyan a 3-2 lead in the all-time series.

After a quick 5-0 scoring run turned a tie score into a 5-point CSI deficit, the Dolphins quickly responded with six straight points to go ahead by one.  However, neither team would would lead by more than four for nearly ten minutes to open the game. With just over ten minutes to go before halftime, Messiah Mallory put the Dolphins up six.  This would be the last basket scored by either team until the 6:55 mark in the half when a Redhawks three cut the CSI lead in half.  The Dolphins would go ahead by as many as seven in the closing minutes before the break, but RWU ended the half on an 8-2 run.

The Redhawks scoring run continued through the opening minutes of the second half and RWU scored 15 of the first 17 points after the intermission to take a 12-point lead.  After the lead briefly grew to 13, the Dolphins responded with a 7-0 run of their own.  A Redhawks score ended the CSI run there, but the Dolphins responded with seven straight to take the lead, 61-59.  With the scored tied at 65 and 7:29 to play, the Redhawks would deliver the game's final blow with an 11-0 run.  This put the Dolphins in a hole that they were unable to climb out of as they went on to lose, 83-74.

Mallory was one of four Dolphins to score in double-figures finishing with 14 points and 8 rebounds.  Along with Mallory, Adeleye Oyekanmi also played a big role in the second half CSI comeback as he finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Chris Clancy added a pair of timely threes as well and scored 10 points on 4-5 from the field.  What ultimately proved to be the difference in the game were the 20 CSI turnovers, many of which led to easy transition baskets.  As a result of their giveaways, the Dolphins were outscored on the fast break 18-6.

The Dolphins will next be in action on Friday at 5:00 PM when they will make up a previously postponed meeting with D'Youville University.
