HUGE FINAL DAY CLOSES OUT SWIMMING & DIVING DEBUT AT NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIP

Worcester, MA - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team made their debut at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship this weekend in their final meet of the 2023-2024 season.  In their first season as associate members in the conference, the Dolphins made a strong impression both in and out of the pool.  It was a weekend filled with record-setting performances and many A-finalists across numerous events.  The Dolphins also earned their first medal in a Division II conference championship as the women went on to place 7th while the men placed 5th.

Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Session 1/2
As they did in their final meet of the 2022-2023 season at the METS Championship, the Dolphins opened this year's championship meet with a record-setting relay.  Jessica Johnson, Edna Melendez, Aurelia Barbagallo and Morgan Novello combined to set a new program record in the 800-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 8:24.84.  The record-breaking effort surpassed the previous record by nearly eight seconds and bested the team's top time of the current season by nearly eleven seconds.  The CSI men also achieved their best time of the season in the same event as Charles Cusumano, David Poggioli, Anthony Attenborough, and William Kwan combined to post a time of 7:12.64.  The scores through the first night of competition can be found below and will be updated following the completion of both day 2 sessions.

Friday, February 16, 2024 - Sessions 3/4
The Dolphins continued their record-setting weekend at the NE-10 Championship in the meet's second day of competition on Friday.  First, Jordan Swanson earned the program's first medal with in Women's 1-Meter Diving.  The junior scored 344.50 to earn third place in the event as she continue's her record-setting career with the program.  Competing alongside Swanson in the event were Jacqueline DeFranco and Deanna Soueid who placed 4th and 8th respectively.  After the Women's 800-Yard Freestyle Relay record fell on Thursday night, the CSI women broke another program record in the 400-Yard Medley Relay on Friday.  Edna Melendez, Jessica Johnson, Aurelia Barbagallo, and Katherine Ebrahim combined to post a time of 4:07.71.  In B finals for the CSI women, Edna Melendez took 10th in the 500 Free and Johnson took 10th in the 50 Free.  
The CSI men saw their day two effort highlighted by their performance in the A final of the 200-Yard IM.  In the A final, William Kwan took 4th and David Fayngersh took 6th.  In B finals, Charles Cusumano took 9th in the 200 IM and Anthony Attenborough took 11th in the 50 Free.

Saturday, February 17, 2024 - Sessions 5/6
The Dolphins made appearances near the top of the standings across several events last night and set yet another new program record on the third day of the NE-10 Championship.  The top individual finish in Swimming belonged to William Kwan who took 5th in the 400-IM.  He was followed closely by Julian Lopez who finished in 6thJessica Johnson took 7th in the 100 Breast and David Poggioli took 9th for the men in the same event.  In the 100 Back Maxim Kleyer also took 7th and Edna Melendez took 10thCharles Cusumano also scored a 10th place finish for the Dolphins in the 100 Fly.  Other notable finishes for the Dolphins included Nicholas Tartaglione and Aurelia Barbagallo finishing 13th and 14th in the 100 Fly, James Curran taking 13th in the 200 Free, and Katherine Ebrahim and Elliot Radov finishing 14th and 16th in the 100 Back.  In Diving, Josiah Rivera finished 5th in Men's 1-Meter.  Most notably, the team of Melendez, Johnson, Barbagallo and Ebrahim set another new program record in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.59.

Sunday, February 18, 2024 - Sessions 7/8
The Dolphins closed what was both a record-setting and historic weekend for the program on Sunday at the Northeast-10 Championship. Numerous program records fell during the meet as the Dolphins competed in a Division II conference championship for the first time in program history.  The final day of the four-day meet was highlighted by another record for the CSI women when Jessica Johnson set a new program record in the 100-Yard Freestyle.  Her time of 53.83 not only was the best in CSI program history, but it was also good to earn her 7th place in the A final.  For the CSI men, it was a strong team effort that propelled the Dolphins past Saint Michael's College in the final standing.  Entering the final day of the meet trailing the Purple Knights by 8.5 points, the Dolphins surged ahead and took fifth in the meet by 22.5 points.
