Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

GOLDSTEIN LEADS MEN'S BASKETBALL TO HUGE CONFERENCE WIN OVER DAEMEN, 79-67

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team secured a huge conference win at home earlier tonight as they knocked off the Daemen University Wildcats, 79-67.  The Dolphins improve to 14-8 on the year and are now 8-3 against the ECC.  The Wildcats drop to 16-7 on the season and fall to 6-4 in conference play.  The Dolphins earn up a sweep of the season series against Daemen with the win and improve to 2-4 against the Wildcats all-time.

The Dolphins opened the game by falling behind 4-0, but CSI quickly responded with a 7-0 run.  After taking the lead at the 16:01 mark in the first half, the Dolphins would not trail again the rest of the way.  The basket which gave the Dolphins the lead was a three-pointer by Aaron Goldstein, the first of six makes from beyond the arc for the freshman.  The Wildcats would pull to within two soon after CSI took the lead, but once again the Dolphins went on a scoring run.  A 12-2 CSI surge made it 21-9, and the Dolphins would score six of the next seven points to make it 27-10.  The Dolphins would capitalize on numerous second chances throughout the remainder of the half, and Goldstein would go on to score 21 points before halftime.  However, Daemen would score the final eight points of the half to turn a 23-point deficit into a 15-point deficit entering halftime.

The Daemen scoring run continued into the early minutes of the second half and the CSI lead was trimmed all the way down to seven.  From here, the Dolphins would respond with a 10-2 run to take a 15-point lead with under eleven minutes to play.  After committing two early fouls in the first half, Messiah Mallory returned in the second half as the driving force behind CSI's offense.  Goldstein then added the three-pointer which put CSI in front by 15, and the Dolphins would not see their lead fall below ten points again.  Following their run to begin the second half, Daemen would score just 9 points in the final seven minutes of the game.  Meanwhile, the Dolphins were dominant on the offensive glass, more efficient from the field, and won the turnover battle.  All of this combined to help CSI close out the 79-67 win which secures them any potential tiebreaker over the Wildcats.

Goldstein led the Dolphins with a career-high 28 points on 10-17 from the field and 6-9 from beyond the arc.  Mallory finished with 10 and Jordan McAllister scored 12.  More notably, the CSI bench outscored the Daemen bench 24-3 led by Adeleye Oyekanmi with 9 points in 17 minutes.  Not appearing on the stat sheet was the intensity and effort the Dolphins exhibited in what was undoubtedly their biggest game of the season to date.  After missing the first game against the Dolphins last month, Dylan Fasoyiro led Daemen in scoring with 24 points.  He was one of four Wildcats to score at least 10 points, but this was not enough to help Daemen overcome the early deficit they faced in the first half.

With the team closing in on clinching a playoff spot, the Dolphins will be back in action on Sunday against D'Youville University at 3:00 PM.
