WOMEN PLACE 5TH, MEN 16TH AT PURPLE & GOLD INVITATIONAL

West Chester, PA - The College of Staten Island Track & Field Team competed for the first time during the Outdoor season earlier today as they took part in the Purple and Gold Invitational.  Today's meet was the team's first since the Last Chance Invite exactly one month ago and was only meet in the Northeast not postponed of canceled due to inclement weather.  In today's meet, the CSI women placed 5th in a field of 15.  The CSI men placed 16th in a field of 18.

Today's outing for the CSI women was highlighted by a trio of top-three finishes, one on the track and one in the field.  Inioluwa Ogunfowora took second in the 100-Meter, Ava Thompson took second in the Discus, and Angelina Guerriero took third in the 400-Meter.  Joining Ogunfowora in the top half of the field in the 100 were Zahriyah Kerr and Sofia DulisovaAlexandrea Jackson and Elizabeth Nicotra joined Guerriero in the top half of the field in the 400.  Mellanie Islas also joined Jackson, Nicotra and Guerriero in that event.  In addition to the 400, Nicotra also competed in the 1500 placing 23rd in a field of 39.  Lastly, Aryanna Finkelstein and Katherine Marando competed alongside Thompson in the Discus taking 16th and 18th respectively.

The performance of the CSI men in today's meet was highlighted by a third-place finish for Ibrahima Diallo in the 400-Meter.  In the same event, Wayne Stephenson, Ethanael Elliott and Jorden Dixon all finished in the top 20 as well.  In sprints, Omar Sheriff and Dominic Babilonia competed in the 100-Meter, and in distance runs Matthew Amato and Alan Bass competed in the 1500-Meter.  Lastly, Jamel Reynolds competed in the Shot Put taking 17th.

The Outdoor Track & Field Team will next be in action in six days when they compete in the Townson Invitational on Friday.
