BASEBALL COMPLETES FOUR-GAME SWEEP OF LINCOLN WITH MASSIVE EIGHT-RUN COMEBACK

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team completed a four-game sweep of Lincoln University today as they picked up two more wins over the Lions in another doubleheader at home.  In game one, the Dolphins fell behind for the third straight game, but CSI would come from behind to win by five as they defeated the Lions 8-3.  In game two, the Dolphins fell behind by eight before scoring twelve unanswered runs to win 12-8.  The Dolphins end the day 10-13 on the season and improve to 5-3 in conference play. The Lions are 7-16 overall following the two losses, and they end the weekend 1-7 against the ECC.

GAME 1
The Lions would strand two on base in the first inning of game one, but they would ultimately strike first against the Dolphins for the third straight game.  A one out single in the third inning got things started before a Dolphins error allowed the runner to advance on a fielder's choice ground ball.  Jaden Greenidge then delivered a three-run homer to center which opened the scoring and put Lincoln ahead, 3-0.  That score would stand until the home fourth when the first four Dolphins all reached as part of a three-run rally.  The inning began with a walk and a single setting up a 2-RBI double by Thomas MartenVincent Weigele then chased home Marten with another RBI hit to tie the score.  The Lions were able to limit the damage to one in the inning, but the Dolphins went in front for good in the fifth on an AJ Vigliotti sacrifice fly.  This put CSI ahead 4-3, and after four insurance runs came home in the eighth, the Dolphins took the win, 8-3.

GAME 2
Game two saw the Lions score first for the fourth straight game in the series as they took an 8-0 lead before the Dolphins got on the board.  However, the CSI offense came to life in the fourth.  Jaden Waterman plated the first two CSI runs with a 2-RBI single before an RBI ground out and wild pitch brought home two more.  Now trailing 8-4 entering the fifth, the Dolphins went right back to work in the home half of the inning.  A sacrifice fly made it 8-5, but the big blow in the inning came on a two-run homer by Marten, his second long ball of the day.  Michael Palermo would then give CSI the lead for the first time on a 2-RBI single, and from here the Dolphins would never look back.  The Dolphins would add four more runs in the sixth, two coming on another 2-RBI hit by Palermo.  This put CSI ahead 12-8, and that score would stand for the remainder of the game as the Dolphins completed the four-game sweep.

The Lions led in all four games of the series, but the Dolphins offense scored 46 runs across the four-game set.  The CSI bullpen was also fantastic in Saturday's doubleheader as CSI relief pitching did not surrender a single run in either game.  It was a huge day for Marten and Palermo who combined for 10 RBI across the two games.  Palermo also factored in defensively with a pair of great plays in right field during game one.  Rice earned his second win of the season in game one as well with another quality outing, and his ERA drops to 3.91 on the season.

The Dolphins will next be in action when they begin a conference series with St. Thomas Aquinas College at home on Friday afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
