Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

DOLPHINS STRIKE FOR THREE GOALS BUT COME UP JUST SHORT AGAINST CHARGERS, 4-3

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team returned home this afternoon as they opened a non-conference Soccer doubleheader with their first-ever meeting against Dominican University.  Trailing by a single goal three separate times, the Dolphins drew even on each occasion.  However, it was the Chargers who scored the final goal of the match to go in front for good as they took the win 4-3.  The Dolphins fall to 0-2-1 on the season with the loss and the Chargers improve to 2-1 with their second victory of the season over an ECC opponent.

The Dolphins opened the game with a quality shot attempt by Isabella Radovini, but each of the next three shots belonged to the Chargers.  Finally, on their fourth attempt Dominican broke through with the game's first goal.  Isabella Wysocki put the Chargers ahead with the goal, but the Dolphins would get even on Caitlyn Thompson's first goal as a Dolphin 18 minutes later.  Assisted on a through ball from Chloe Ludwick, Thompson bent a long shot beneath the crossbar for her first of the year.  With the scored tied at one entering the final minute of the half, Kaitlyn Zeeb put Dominican back ahead with 52 seconds to go before halftime.

The 2-1 Chargers lead would stand for less than three minutes after the second half started as Nadia Evola got the Dolphins even once again with her first of the season.  It took less than three minutes from there for the Chargers to go back in front as Brianna Mikucki was on the receiving end of a cross to the far post.  Waiting on the doorstep of goal, she sent a shot behind Villacres to make it 3-2.  With less than twelve minutes to play the resilient Dolphins netted a third equalizer as Emilie Nagel scored her first of the season to make it 3-3.  However, the Chargers would go in front one final time five minutes later as Wysocki put them ahead for good with the game-winning goal in the 84th minute.

Thompson, Evola, and Nagel all scored their first goal of the season for the Dolphins and Wysocki registered a multi-goal effort for the Chargers.  Wysocki also led the Chargers in shots on goal with four while Thompson led the Dolphins with three.  The Dolphins were outshot 20-8 in the game, but shots on goal favored the Chargers just 9-6.  Dolphins goalkeeper Sara Villacres would finish with five saves while Chargers goalkeeper Nelly Arvidsson finished with three.

The Dolphins will next take the pitch at home when they face Georgian Court University on Animal Care Centers and Awareness Day this Saturday at 11:00 AM.
