WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO GOLDEY-BEACOM IN FINAL OUTING BEFORE CONFERENCE OPENER, 3-0

Wilmington, DE - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team dropped their final outing before Saturday's conference opener earlier today as they were defeated by the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning, 3-0.  The Dolphins fall to 0-4-1 on the season with the loss and the Lightning earn their first win of the season to improve to 1-4.  The Lightning have now won all four meetings against the Dolphins and have yet to allow a goal in those four matchups.

The Dolphins nearly struck first in the opening minutes as Caitlyn Thompson made a bid for her second goal of the season with a shot off the crossbar.  Just minutes later, Nadia Evola repeated the same feat as she connected with iron on her first shot attempt of the match.  Moments later, a follow-up attempt by Isabella Radovini was saved by Lightning goalkeeper Nikki Cashin.  Following the attempt by Radovini, the Dolphins would register just one more shot in the final 21 minutes of the half and GBC would collect six of the next seven shots.  It was the fourth of those six attempts that opened the scoring as Angela Lee found the back of the net to put the Lightning ahead 1-0.

Just three minutes into the second half, Alex Lowry doubled the Goldey-Beacom lead off an assist from Diana Luna Lopez.  This came on the first of four consecutive shots by the Lightning to open the second half, and the Dolphins would attempt just two shots in the final 45 minutes.  After the early flurry for the Lightning immediately following halftime, the Dolphins defense allowed just two shots during the final 35 minutes.  Despite this, one of those found the back of the net when Lexy Yeager made in a 3-0 score in the 81st minute.  This would ultimately be the final score as GBC earned their first win of the season.

Five CSI position players spent the full 90 minutes on the pitch and Oksana Zahirna made her Dolphins debut in goal.  In her first outing, she faced 17 shots, six on goal, saving three.  Radovini was the only Dolphin with multiple shots, finishing with a pair on goal.  For the Lightning Nikki Cashin also made three saves and four players attempted multiple shots.

The Dolphins will open conference play at home on Saturday when they face the Wildcats of Daemen University.  Kickoff at the CSI Outdoor Track & Field Complex is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
