Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

TWO-GOAL SECOND HALF NOT ENOUGH TO POWER DOLPHINS PAST WILDCATS IN CONFERENCE OPENER

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team opened conference play at home earlier today, but a two-goal second half was not enough to push the Dolphins past Daemen University in a 5-2 defeat.  After falling behind by three in the first half, the Dolphins cut the lead two a pair behind an Arielle Uy goal.  However, the Wildcats would score two of the next three including one with 5 seconds remaining in the game.  The loss drops the Dolphins to 0-5-1 on the year and 0-1 against the ECC.  The Wildcats pick up their first win to improve to 1-4 and begin conference play with a record of 1-0.

Less than a minute into the first half, the reigning ECC Player of the year Kylie Miranto scored the first of her three goals to put Daemen in front, 1-0.  It took less than eleven minutes for Magda Carpenter to double the lead as she found the back of the net to make it 2-0 in the 12th minute.  Kaitlyn Wright then added a third Wildcats goal twenty minutes later sending the game into halftime with the Dolphins trailing by three.

Following a rebound in front of the Wildcats net, Uy brought the Dolphins to within two in the 55th minute with her first goal of the season.  Daemen answered just a few short minutes later with Miranto's second of the game to go back ahead by three.  Despite the deficit, the Dolphins continued to battle and once again drew to within two when Isbella Radovini scored for the second time in 2024.  Now within two again, CSI time ran out on the CSI comeback bid with just eight minutes remaining.  Meanwhile, the Wildcats added a third Miranto goal with just a few seconds remaining to end the game with a 5-2 final.

The Dolphins were outshot 26-14 in the match and Daemen held a 15-8 advantage in shots on goal.  Oksana Zahirna made ten saves in the loss as she made her first start at home following her debut on Wednesday.  Radovini led the Dolphins with four shots, three on goal.  Three of Miranto's five attempts found the back of the net for the Wildcats and goalkeeper Becca Schultz made six saves.

The Dolphins will have a week off before they continue conference play next Saturday against Roberts Wesleyan University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
