Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS 1-0 RESULT TO ROBERTS WESLEYAN IN CONFERENCE PLAY

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team dropped a one-goal result against Roberts Wesleyan University earlier today as they returned to action for the first time since their conference opener last weekend.  The loss drops the Dolphins to 0-6-1 on the season and Red Hawks improve to 4-3-1 with the victory.  In conference play, the Dolphins are now 0-2 and Roberts improves to 2-1.

The match opened with a series of five shots by the Red Hawks, three off target and two saved by Dolphins goalkeeper Sara Villacres.  The Dolphins would then respond with a flurry of their own on the attack as they registered three consecutive shots by Caitlyn Thompson, Isabella Radovini and Nadia Evola.  Still scoreless, a pair of blocked shots and two more saves by Villacres kept both teams without a goal entering the 39th minute.  However, this is where the scoreless tie was broken as Ella White placed a shot into the upper-right corner for the game's lone goal.

Following halftime, Riley Hammond and Eva Rodriguez would attempt two of the first three shots for CSI, and the Dolphins defense would limit Roberts to just one shot in the first twelve minutes after the break.  From here, the Dolphins would collect just two more shots, one by Radovini and another by Evola.  This saw the game end where the second half began as the Red Hawks took the win 1-0.

Roberts Wesleyan held an 18-8 advantage in shots including seven on-target.  In perhaps her strongest game of the season, Villacres made six saves and kept the Dolphins in the game for the full 90 minutes.  The CSI defense also allowed one goal or fewer for the second time this season, and two CSI defenders, Emily Albano and Kelly Buckley, played at least 78 minutes.  Radovini also played the full 90 minutes, and Megan Meagher played all but three minutes in the midfield.

Video coverage of today's game was unavailable due to inclement weather.  The Dolphins will next be in action at home when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a pivotal East Coast Conference matchup.  The Dolphins will be looking to remain above the .500 mark all-time against the Spartans when they kick off from the CSI Outdoor Track & Field Complex at 11:00 AM on Wednesday.
