DOLPHINS HANDED SECOND CONFERENCE LOSS FOLLOWING SECOND-HALF WILDCATS COMEBACK, 50-44

Amherst, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team suffered their second conference loss of the season earlier tonight as they fell to the Daemen University Wildcats by a final score of 50–44.  The Dolphins led by as many as 16 points in the second quarter, but a 20–5 third quarter in favor of the Wildcats spurred a comeback that saw them take the lead entering the fourth.  A go-ahead three by Dana Phelan put the Dolphins ahead by two in the closing minutes, but the Wildcats answered back with a three of their own and held the lead for good.  The Dolphins and the night 13-7 on the season and 7–2 in conference play.  The Wildcats finish the night 13-6 and remain perfect against the ECC at 9–0.

After trailing by two nearly five minutes into the opening quarter, the Dolphins began a scoring run that would quickly see their lead grow to double digits.  Consecutive three-pointers by Alexa Quirolo got things started, and Phelan added two threes of her own to extend the CSI lead to seven.  The Dolphins would then go on to score five of the last seven points in the period and would take a 20–10 lead into the second.  Only two points were scored during the first six minutes of the second quarter before the Dolphins finally ended the lengthy scoring drought with 3:59 to go in the first half.  The first six CSI points in the quarter all belonged to Amber Abusbeih, and her scoring put the Dolphins ahead by fourteen.  That lead would briefly grow as large as 16 before halftime, and the Dolphins would go into the break leading 29–15.

Abusbeih opened the scoring in the third-quarter as well, but this would be the only time that CSI scored during the first five minutes of the period.  Alexa Quirolo ended an 11–0 Daemen run with another three, but the Wildcats would score the final nine points in the quarter to go in front 35–34 entering the fourth.  Daemen would go ahead by as many as five points in the opening minutes of the final quarter, but the Dolphins would eventually take the lead back with 2:42 remaining on a Phelan three-pointer.  The Wildcats answered right back with a three of their own by Danielle DiCintio, and this would put them ahead for good.  The Dolphins would pull two within one from the free-throw line, and needing to foul, CSI forced a Daemen turnover with 27 seconds remaining.  However, Abusbeih would miss a go-ahead three-point attempt, and Daemen would close out a 50–44 victory from the line.

Abusbeih led the Dolphins in scoring with 11 points, and Phelan finished with 10.  Quirolo scored 9, all coming on three-pointers, and the Dolphins shot just 15–62 as a team.  Jenalyse Alarcon grabbed a team-leading 15 rebounds and Kyra Rose added 10 more.  Though the Dolphins held a distinct advantage on the glass, Daemen was the far more efficient team from the field in the second half.

The Dolphins will be right back in action on Sunday when they visit D'Youville University at 1:00 PM.
