Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

EARLY GOAL PUSHES LIONS PAST DOLPHINS IN ROAD CONTEST, 1-0

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The College of Staten Island women's soccer team visited Georgian Court University (GCU) on Saturday afternoon in the second of three straight non-conference matches.

The lone score of the match came just over one minute after kickoff as a Lions set piece resulted in a Chiamaka Wokocha goal.  Trailing by one, the Dolphins generated two shots in the first 45 minutes, both belonging to Caitlyn Thompson.  Each of those shots was stopped by Lions goalkeeper Jaeleigh Tuccille, and the game reached halftime with GCU ahead 1-0.

The Lions got off to a very quick start following the break as they registered the first three shots of the second half.  The second of those three shots came after Sara O'Donnell committed a foul to set up a GCU penalty kick.  Staring in the face of a two-goal deficit for her team, Oksana Zahirna made the save to keep the score 1-0.  This set the stage for a late surge by the Dolphins with several chances to get even.

First, Albana Gjonbalaj connected with the crossbar on a strike that came with less than twelve minutes remaining.  From there, the Dolphins were held without a shot until the final minute when consecutive shots by Yelyzaveta Kovalenko and Isabella Schlee were both saved by Tuccille.  The second of those saves came with just twenty seconds remaining, and time ran out on the Dolphins in a 1-0 defeat.

The College of Staten Island women's soccer team will wrap up a three-game non-conference stretch at home on Wednesday, Oct. 15 against Lincoln University (PA) at 3:00 PM.
