DOLPHINS UPENDED BY SPARTANS IN ECC ROAD MATCHUP

SPARKILL, NY - The College of Staten Island men's soccer team opened its three-game road swing on Wednesday afternoon with a matchup against St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) in Sparkill, NY. The Spartans came away with a 1-0 victory, dropping the Dolphins to 1-4-3 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play.

The first half ended scoreless, with the Dolphins recording just three shots on the efforts from Peterson Larose, Brian Puleo, and Koray Arslan, who posted the lone shot on target in the frame. Just before halftime, the Spartans were awarded a penalty kick following a Dolphin foul in the box. With Luca Schelling in goal, the attempt struck the post, keeping the match scoreless heading into the break.

STAC opened the second half with back-to-back shots, and after another save by Schelling kept the game scoreless, the Spartans broke through a minute later with the eventual game-winner in a 1-0 decision over the Dolphins.

William Lopez led the offensive push with three shots in the day followed by Tai Torres with two. Larose, Puleo, Arslan, and Alonso Villegas had one apiece. Schelling ended the contest with nine saves, marking a career high with the Dolphins program.

The College of Staten Island men's soccer team will return to action this Saturday for another East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup with D'Youville University in Buffalo, NY at 3:00 PM.
