STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's soccer team hosted Caldwell University in a non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon at Dolphins Soccer Park. 

The first half remained scoreless, though the Dolphins created several strong chances with Mia Cole and Caitlyn Thompson each recording shot on goal, one saved by the Cougars' keeper and the other deflecting off the post. Annika Jurik added one final attempt before halftime, but the opening 45 minutes concluded with the score still knotted at 0-0. 

Caldwell controlled the tempo early in the second half, recording a shot within the opening two minutes before breaking through in the 59th minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Dolphins. Later in the match, Phoebe Ossola took a chance with a long-range shot, but the opposing keeper made the save to keep the Dolphins off the board. Shortly after, Brianna Dore came up big with back-to-back saves, holding off the Cougars from extending their lead and keeping the Dolphins' hopes alive.

Mazzy Cirinelli and Sara O'Donnell each had late shot attempts, but neither could find the net, as the Dolphins fell 1-0 and dropped to 2-7-1 on the season.

The College of Staten Island women's soccer team will continue non-conference on next Saturday, Oct. 11, versus Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ at 12:00 PM.
