MEN'S BASKETBALL TRIO LAUNCHES DOLPHINS TO VICTORY OVER GRIFFINS

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team closed out the 23rd Annual Tournament of Heroes on Saturday afternoon with a 92–81 non-conference win over Chestnut Hill College.

The Dolphins were powered by a trio of 20-point scorers, JJ Chestnut, Eric Tynes, and Mitchell Wiggans, who helped CSI finish opening weekend undefeated.

Chestnut opened the scoring, and after Tynes gave CSI a 4–2 lead, the Dolphins stayed in front until Chestnut's coast-to-coast layup reclaimed an 18–16 advantage. CSI controlled the remainder of the half and entered the break up 49–30.

A strong start to the second half pushed the lead to 23 points, the largest margin of the day on a Tynes long range bucket. Chestnut Hill cut the deficit to 82–71 in the final minutes, but Tynes responded with a four-point play from the right side corner to put the game out of reach. Freshman Brandon Torres added two free throws to seal the win in the final points of the contest.

Chestnut led the Dolphins with 21 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Tynes and Wiggans added 20 points each, and Aaron Goldstein contributed 15 points and four assists. CSI shot a stellar 90% (20–22) from the free-throw line and 51% (32–63) from the field.

The College of Staten Island men's basketball team heads to Florida next to face the University of Tampa on November 17 at 7:00 PM.
