STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team will host the final day of the East Region Conference Challenge Sunday afternoon against Saint Michael's College at 3:00 PM in the Tank. Today's meeting will mark the first ever matchup between the two teams with both having different outcomes in their opening contests of the season.
The Dolphins secured an opening night 20-point victory over Franklin Pierce last night with newcomers Racky Kane and Shonyae Edmonds leading the charge with their double-digit point performances. Rookie Arielle Barnes led on the boards with 12 rebounds while Kane, Edmonds, and Kyra Rose had nine apiece. In the third quarter, which was the Dolphins' strongest offensive performance, the team shot 50% (9-18) from the field to assist in securing the 67-47 victory.
Saint Michael's College kicked off their season against No. 22 Holy Family University where the ultimately dropped 71-55 after the final buzzer. The Purple Knights were led by Ruby Santos with nine points in yesterday's contest followed by three players with eight points each. Despite the loss, the tea shot 42% (23-55) from the field.
