STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team continues its early-season road stretch this weekend, traveling to Georgian Court University for a Saturday afternoon non-conference matchup in Lakewood, NJ.
After a one-year break in the series, the all-time meetings between the programs sits tied at 1-1. The Dolphins claimed the most recent meeting of an 80-59 victory to open the 2023 season. In that contest, CSI built a commanding 45-25 halftime lead, and while Georgian Court edged the Dolphins 35-34 in the second half, the early cushion propelled CSI to the decisive win.
Both teams enter Saturday with similar records. CSI dropped to 3-3 following a tight 55-54 loss to Pace, while Georgian Court sits at 3-2 after falling to East Stroudsburg, 106-84, each on Tuesday night. The Dolphins continue to be led by Aaron Goldstein, who is averaging 22.0 points per game and has collected 12 steals on the year. JJ Chestnut (11.3 ppg) and Mitchell Wiggan (10.3 ppg) also remain steady double-digit scorers with Chestnut being a key facilitator with 26 assists, and Asa Kone anchors CSI on the glass with a team-high 8.8 rebounds per game while tallying 7 blocks.
Georgian Court features two double-digit scorers of its own, averaging 22.4 ppg and 16.0 ppg, respectively. In team shooting comparisons, the Lions hold a slight edge from the field at 44% (136-307), while CSI enters at 43% (159-374).
