CSI BATTLES WITH SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE FOR FIRST TIME AT THE TANK

STATEN ISLAND, NYThe College of Staten Island women's basketball team hosted Southern Connecticut State University for the first time on Saturday afternoon at the Tank. Despite a competitive start, a decisive second quarter by the Owls handed the Dolphins the non-conference defeat, 78–52.

The opening quarter was tightly contested, with CSI trailing 11–9 behind early scoring contributions from Arielle Barnes, Shonyae Edmonds, and Giuliana Dito. In the second quarter, the Dolphins continued to battle as Kyra Rose, Dito, and Edmonds kept the hosts within one possession and a defensive block by Jasanii Francis-Torres led to a fastbreak layup by Edmonds, giving CSI its first lead of the day at 16–14.

However, the momentum shifted once again as Southern Connecticut regained the lead at 17–16 and followed with an 11–6 run to take a 28–22 advantage. The Owls extended their lead to double digits late in the half and carried a 37–24 cushion into the break.

CSI battled in the third quarter, narrowly being outscored 21–18. Rose and Barnes opened the second-half scoring, and Edmonds knocked down a three to spark an attempted shift in momentum. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Dolphins trailed 58–42. In the final frame, CSI received scoring from Dana Phelan, Rose, Edmonds, and Barnes, but the gap proved too large to overcome as Southern Connecticut secured the 78–52 win.

Edmonds led CSI with 22 points and four steals. Rose delivered a strong all-around performance with nine points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. Barnes added eight points, while Dito contributed seven.

The Dolphins (2–4) return to the Tank on Wednesday, December 3, to open East Coast Conference play against Mercy University at 5:30 PM.
