STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team returns to The Tank on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference contest with Southern Connecticut State University for the first time in program history.
Both teams enter the contest looking to bounce back from Tuesday night losses as the Dolphins fell to No. 23 Bentley, 64-41, while the Owls were defeated by Saint Michael's, 86-68. Through five games, Southern Connecticut holds a 3-2 record, while CSI sits at 2-3.
The Dolphins continue to be powered by their newcomer duo, Racky Kane and Shonyae Edmonds. Edmonds led all CSI scorers on Tuesday with 13 points and nine rebounds, finishing just shy of a double-double while also posting a team-high two steals. She enters Saturday averaging 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and Kane leads the Dolphins in scoring with 12.2 ppg and anchors the defense with 1.4 blocks per game. Freshman Arielle Barnes has also emerged as a key contributor, leading the team with 6.8 rebounds per game. She added 12 points in 20 minutes off the bench against Bentley.
Southern Connecticut features a balanced and potent attack, with four players averaging double figures, including a team-high 18.0 points per game. The Owls also bring depth on the boards, with three players averaging 6.0+ rebounds, helping them collect 212 rebounds through five games.
