Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS TEAM EFFORT RECORDS MOST POINTS IN A SINGLE GAME AGAINST CHEYNEY (PA.)

STATEN ISLAND, NY –  The College of Staten Island men's basketball team returned to the Tank on Monday evening for a non-conference matchup against Cheyney University (Pa.). The Dolphins dominated from start to finish, rolling to a 123–83 victory and setting a new program record for most points scored in a single game.

CSI wasted no time taking control as Asa Kone opened the scoring, and Eric Tynes followed with three straight three-pointers to break the game open just three minutes in. With the Dolphins leading 24–11, Andrew Benedict added a smooth bucket from the right corner to extend the edge to 26–11.

Tynes stayed hot, putting up nine straight points on two more threes and a trio of free throws to make it 35–15. Cheyney briefly trimmed the deficit to 12 after capitalizing on a few CSI missed opportunities, but Mitchell Wiggan halted the run with five quick points to restore a 17-point cushion.

The Dolphins carried a commanding 61–38 lead into halftime thanks to a last-second three from Benedict. The second half brought more of the same, as every CSI player who saw the floor contributed to the scoring column. JJ Chestnut and Aaron Goldstein opened the half strong before Brandon Torres pushed the lead to 79–47 and the freshman duo of Torres and Benedict continued to pace the offense. Jaice Martabano added a strong drive to the rim to join the scoring effort.

When the final buzzer sounded, the Dolphins closed out a record-breaking 123–83 win, improving to 6–3 on the season.

Tynes led all scorers with 27 points, while Wiggan posted a dominant double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Benedict recorded his second straight double-double with 14 points and 10 boards, along with three assists. Torres matched Benedict with 14 points, Kone added 13, and Elijah Darby chipped in 12. Goldstein directed the offense with a game-high eight assists.

CSI shot an impressive 57% (39–68) from the field and 45% (14–31) from three.

The Dolphins return to action on Wednesday as they resume their December 6 contest at St. Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill, NY. Play will pick back up with STAC leading 5–0 with 18:31 remaining in the first half.
