Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS HINDERED BY SLOW START IN LOSS TO WILDCATS, 85-61

Amherst, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team fell to Daemen University for the second time this season earlier tonight as the Dolphins could not overcome a slow start in an 85–61 defeat.  The loss sees the Dolphins fall to 8–13 overall and 4–5 in conference play.  With the victory, the Wildcats remain perfect at 18-0 on the season and 9–0 against the ECC. The win is the third straight for Daemen against the Dolphins.

The Wildcats got off to a strong start shooting from the outside, connecting on a trio of three-pointers in the first three minutes of the first half.  This quickly put Daemen ahead 9–0, a lead that soon grew to double digits as the Wildcats went in front 11-0.  After trailing by as many as 15 points, the Dolphins went on an 11–4 run capped off by an Aaron Goldstein three-pointer to make it 25–17.  However, the Wildcats connected on consecutive threes to extend their lead right back to 14 points, and they would go ahead by 20 entering halftime.

The Dolphins would get as close as 16 in the second half after a Messiah Mallory three-pointer made it 46–30.  From here, the Wildcats went on a 13–1 run to go ahead by 28 and put the game out of reach.  The Dolphins would not get any closer than 30 until the final three minutes as Daemen would go on to win, 85–61.

Mallory led the Dolphins with 25 points on efficient 9–16 shooting and 3–6 from beyond the arc.  Asa Kone also provided a spark in the first half finishing with nine points and nine rebounds in just 19 minutes. No other Dolphin scored more than eight points as CSI was held below 33% shooting for the game.  On the other side, four Wildcats scored in double figures and Daemen finished the night shooting 46% from the field and over 42% from three-point range.

The Dolphins will look to bounce back on Sunday when they visit D'Youville University at 3:00 PM.
