BASEBALL SPLITS ROAD DOUBLEHEADER WITH GRIFFINS TO BEGIN BUSY WEEK-LONG STRETCH OF GAMES

Philadelphia, PA - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team earned a split of today's doubleheader against Chestnut Hill College as they began a busy week-long stretch of games with a 5-3 win and a 13-10 defeat.  The Dolphins end the day 2-5 with the split and the Griffins improve to 4-2.

GAME 1
Game one saw the Dolphins fall behind early as the Griffins scored three runs, just one earned, off Ryan Kehoe in the first inning.  However, this would be the last time Chestnut Hill would score as the Dolphins starter put together his second strong outing of the season.  CSI would get one run back in the second on a Jack Kehoe home run.  The Dolphins then pulled to within one in the fourth as Chris Polemeni reached on a leadoff double and scored on an AJ Vigliotti base-hit.  After Kehoe stranded two Griffins on base in the home fifth, the Dolphins got even in the next half-inning on a Vincent Weigele sacrifice fly.  The score remained tied until the seventh when TJ Laino delivered the deciding blow with a two-run shot, his second home run of the season.

Nick Pusinelli came on to record the save in the ninth, his second of the season.  Kehoe earned his second win of the year as well, allowing just one earned run in 6.0 innings of work.  Polemeni was 3-4 with two runs scored in the CSI win, and both Vigliotti and Kehoe finished with multiple hits.

GAME 2
The Griffins once again jumped out to an early lead in game two, this time 4-0 after the first inning.  Once again, the Dolphins would chip away with two runs in the third, but four Griffins runs in the home half of the inning made it 8-2.  The Griffins would add four more in the fifth to make it 12-2, but the Dolphins did not go down quietly the rest of the way.  Four CSI hits and a Griffins error culminated with a three-run homer by Polemeni to make it 12-7.  Chestnut Hill tacked on one more run in the sixth to increase their lead to six, but the Dolphins continued to battle until their final out.  Following a leadoff single, Kehoe connected on his second home run of the day to make it 13-9.  An RBI single by John Harrington then made it 13-10, but CSI would never bring the tying run to the plate as the Dolphins fell by three.

Jonny Bohlman, Kehoe and Anthony Sutera each collected two hits in game two.  Polemeni also added another hit to his stat line to go along with his 3 RBI.  Gerard Santos took the loss for the Dolphins, and the CSI bullpen allowed five runs across the final 3.2 innings.

The Dolphins are right back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader against Caldwell University.  The two games against the Cougars will be played at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park with first pitch scheduled for 1:30 PM.
