BASEBALL OPENS HOME SCHEDULE WITH DOUBLEHEADER LOSSES AGAINST CALDWELL

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team dropped their first two home games of the season earlier today as they fell to Caldwell University by final scores of 7-3 and 5-3.  In game one, the Dolphins led 3-1, but the Cougars rallied from behind to send the game to extra innings and win by four.  In game two, the Cougars built a four-run lead that the Dolphins trimmed to one.  However, Caldwell never surrendered that lead on their way to a sweep of the twin bill.  The Cougars open their season 2-0 with the victories and the Dolphins fall to 2-7.

GAME 1
Aidan Kielty gave the Dolphins another strong start to begin his season going five innings and allowing just one run.  This allowed CSI to build a 3-1 lead in the early innings, a lead that they held into the sixth.  AJ Vigliotti doubled home the game's first run in the opening inning, and Jack Kehoe chased home the second run on a sacrifice fly shortly after.  After the Cougars cut the 2-0 CSI lead in half, Jaden Waterman singled home another Dolphins run to put CSI ahead 3-1.  The Cougars pulled to within one on a run-scoring wild pitch in the sixth and then went on to tie the game on another run-scoring wild pitch in the seventh.

With the go-ahead run on third, a fly ball led to a play at the plate that resulted in the second out of the inning.  With the score still tied, the Dolphins escaped further damage, but they failed to score in the home half of the inning.  In the eighth, the Cougars rallied for four runs on three hits to go in front, 7-3.  This is all the offense Caldwell would need as the Dolphins went down 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning.

Polemeni registered another multi-hit game for the Dolphins finishing 2-3 with two runs scored.  Vigliotti also had two hits and an RBI.  Despite losing by four, the Dolphins outhit the Cougars 7-6 in the game.  However, Ben Foote shut the Dolphins out over 3.0 one-hit innings of relief to earn the win for the Cougars.

GAME 2
The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in game two and added three more runs to that lead in the fourth.  Trailing 4-0 in the home fourth, Kehoe drove in a run with a ground out and Christopher Reilly singled home another run.  One inning later, Nico Rodriguez earned an RBI with a bases-loaded walk, but the Dolphins ultimately settled for just the one run and stranded the bases loaded.  The 4-3 score would stand until the seventh when the Cougars added an insurance run to go ahead by two.  The Dolphins would never bring the tying run to the plate after that as they went down in order during the home seventh inning of a 5-3 defeat.

Reilly had two of the three CSI hits in the game with the other belonging to JJ HunterMichael Furst went 5.0 innings in his second start of the year and allowed four runs on five hits.  Anthony Salmonese added 2.0 innings out of the CSI bullpen allowing one run on three hits.

The Dolphins have one day off before a return to action on Tuesday against Georgian Court University.
