Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS REACH 20 WINS WITH VICTORY OVER QUEENS ON SENIOR DAY

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team reached 20 wins in their Senior Day regular-season finale earlier today as they defeated Queens College, 70-52.  With the win, the Dolphins finish the season 20-8 overall and 13-3 in conference play.  The Knights, who entered the day eliminated from playoff contention, end their season 10-16 overall and 5-11 against the ECC.

The Dolphins started their five seniors, Alexa Quirolo, Amber Abusbeih, Oyinkansola Oke, Noemia Massingue, and Jenalyse Alarcon, and that group got the Dolphins off to a strong start.  The Dolphins quickly took a nine-point lead, 11-2, and the Knights struggled with early turnovers and poor shooting.  The Dolphins would maintain that lead for the rest of the quarter, and CSI would go ahead by double-figures for the first time on a three by Madison Haggett early in the second.  Two minutes later, a three by Oke put the Dolphins in front by eleven, and CSI would go into halftime leading by eight.

The Knights didn't waste any time pulling to within one possession in the second half as they made it a three-point game with 7:43 to go in the third quarter.  The Dolphins then responded with an 8-0 run to ahead by eleven, but the Knights would work their way back to within eight after three.  The Knights opened the fourth with a score to make it a two-possession game, but Abusbeih helped the Dolphins pull away with five points in the quarter.  Another 8-0 run put the Dolphins up fourteen, and CSI would never look back on their way to a 70-52 victory.

Abusbeih led the Dolphins with 18 points, and Jenalyse Alarcons finished one point shy of a double-double with 9 points and 12 boards.  All ten Dolphins scored in the game, and CSI shot over 46% as a team.  The Dolphins also added 27 points off of Knights turnovers and 27 points on the fast break.  Many of those came following 23 CSI steals, 6 of which belonged to Abusbeih.

The Dolphins will have a week off as they await their opponent in the ECC Championship Semifinal in Amherst.  The Dolphins will face the winner of the Mercy vs UDC game at 2:30 PM next Saturday.
