DOLPHINS HELD TO ONE RUN IN LOSS TO CHARGERS

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team was held to just one run in their loss to Dominican University earlier tonight as the Chargers erupted for 27 runs on 30 hits in a victory over the Dolphins.  With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 3-13 on the season.  The Chargers finish the night 5-4.

The Chargers scored twice in the first inning to go ahead 2-0 before the Dolphins came to the plate for the first time.  The Dominican offense then produced two runs in each of the next two innings to extend their lead to six.  Trailing 6-0, the Dolphins registered their first two hits of the game in the third inning.  However, CSI stranded two runners on base in their final opportunity to score from within striking distance.  The Chargers proceeded to put together their biggest inning yet with three runs in the fifth, and Dominican broke the game wide open with six more runs in the sixth.  The Chargers would also score the next nine runs during the final three innings before the Dolphins finally got on the board with a run in the ninth.

The Dolphins finished the game with seven hits, two coming in the ninth inning.  Christopher Riley drove in the lone CSI run with an RBI double in the ninth and Dolphins pitching allowed at least one run in each inning except the fourth.  Christopher Martinez pitched the only inning of scoreless relief for the CSI pitching staff as the Dolphins used eight pitchers in the game.

The Dolphins return to action with a busy weekend in Pennsylvania.  On Friday and Saturday they will play back-to-back doubleheaders against Shippensburg.  On Sunday they will head to Mansfield for a third straight doubleheader to close out a stretch of six games in three days.
