STRONG OUTING FROM MARTINEZ NOT ENOUGH TO EARN DOLPHINS WIN IN DOUBLEHEADER WITH SHIPPENSBURG

Shippensburg, PA - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team wrapped up a four-game weekend set with Shippensburg University earlier today.  After a doubleheader split on Friday,  the Dolphins dropped a pair of games to the Raiders on Saturday, 10-1 and 2-0.  The Dolphins were held to just one run on six hits in game one, but Alex Martinez turned in his second consecutive strong outing to keep the Dolphins in game two.  However, the two teams combined for just seven hits in the game as the Dolphins were held scoreless in a 2-0 defeat.  CSI ends the day 4-16 and Shippensburg closes out the weekend 13-5.

FRIDAY GAME 1
A pitcher's duel quickly developed in game one as CSI starter Ryan Kehoe and Shippensburg starter Jaxon Dalena traded zeroes for each of the first six innings.  Along the way, each team had only one opportunity with more than a single runner on base.  In the first, the Raiders stranded two on base, and the Dolphins would later leave a pair stranded in the fourth.  The scoreless tie stood until the top of the seventh when the Dolphins finally broke through with the game's first run.  A leadoff walk of TJ Laino set up a Jaden Waterman sacrifice bunt.  Moments later, Jack Kehoe singled home the go-ahead run to deliver the deciding blow.  However, the final three outs did not come easily in the bottom half of the inning.  A CSI error put the leadoff man on and a hit batter put a second runner on base.  With two on and one out, Kehoe induced a game-ending double play grounder as the Dolphins won, 1-0.

Kehoe went the full 7.0 innings and earned his second victory of the season via shutout.  The senior allowed just two hits and struck out five in the win.  At the plate, Kehoe's go-ahead RBI single was one of his two hits in the game.  The other three Dolphin hits belonged to Laino, AJ Vigliotti, and Michael Flashner.

FRIDAY GAME 2
After a game one pitcher's duel, the two teams combined to score five runs in the first inning of game two.  First, the Dolphins opened the scoring with a 2-RBI single by Waterman to go in front, 2-0.  However, this would be the final time CSI would score, and the Raiders quickly took their first lead of the day with three first-inning runs.  Leading by one after the first inning, the Raiders added three runs in the third, one in the fourth and five in the fifth.  One more run in the sixth made it 13-2 Shippensburg which would be the eventual final score.

The Dolphins were held to just four hits in the game including the RBI hit by Waterman, two hits from Laino, and one more from Vigliotti.  Aidan Kielty go the start and allowed the first six runs, five earned, in 3.0 innings of work.  The CSI bullpen allowed the final seven runs, but Christopher Martinez worked his second consecutive outing without allowed an earned run to score in the sixth.

SATURDAY GAME 1
The Dolphins took the lead in the first inning of game one on a sacrifice fly by Vigliotti.  However, the Dolphins would not score again the rest of the way.  Their best opportunities came in the fifth and seventh innings during which they stranded two on base.  Meanwhile, the Raiders went ahead for good with two runs in the home first, and Shippensburg would grow the lead to three with two more in the second.  The Raiders would then score three in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the seventh on their way to a 10-1 victory.

The Dolphins finished the game with six hits, two two belonging to Jack Kehoe.  Vigiliotti was responsible for the lone CSI RBI and Polemeni scored that CSI run in the first inning.  Five Raiders tallied multiple hits as Shippensburg finished the game with 16.

SATURDAY GAME 2
Much like game one on Friday, Saturday's second game began in a pitchers duel between the Dolphins and Raiders.  Neither team mounted any significant threat until the Dolphins put the first two runners on in the third and advanced both into scoring position on a passed ball.  From there, Bryce Amos escaped trouble with a strikeout and consecutive grounders to short.  With the game still scoreless, the Raiders would finally break through in the fourth after a Dolphins throwing error put the go-ahead run on third base.  A single chased that run home soon after, and the Raiders would tack on one more with an RBI double in the fifth.  Trailing 2-0, CSI would eventually bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but the threat would not grow any further as the Dolphins fell, 2-0.

Martinez allowed two runs on four hits in 6.0 inning of work as he fell to 1-2 on the season.  In addition to four innings from Amos, the Shippensburg bullpen tossed 3.0 innings of scoreless relief.  Waterman, Vincent Weigele and Chris Barnik accounted for the three CSI hits as the team was shut out for the second time this season.

The Dolphins will take the field one more time before conference play begins on Friday as they visit Adelphi University on Wednesday at 3:00 PM.
