BASEBALL ERUPTS FOR 21 RUNS TO CLAIM SEASON SERIES FROM ADELPHI, 21-5

Garden City, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team erupted for 21 runs today as they claimed their season series against Adelphi University with a huge 21-5 victory.  The Dolphins end the day with a record of 5-16 as the Panthers drop to 8-8 on the season.  The Dolphins fell behind 1-0 early, but CSI went ahead for good with seven runs in the fourth.  Another three runs in both the fifth and seventh combined with a second seven-spot in the ninth helped the Dolphins to their best offensive performance of the season.  CSI has taken two of three games against the Panthers this year and the all-time series now favors Adelphi 12-6.

Three walks loaded the bases for the Dolphins in the top of the first inning, but CSI failed to score in the opening frame.  Adelphi then took their only lead of the game in the second on a Matt Ryan solo home run.  The Dolphins would remain behind by a run until the fourth when CSI put up seven runs in an inning for the first time.  Vincent Weigele doubled home Michael Flashner to tie the score, and Jack Kehoe singled home the go-ahead run.  Chris Polemeni then cleared the loaded bases with a 3-RBI double before a sacrifice fly and infield single each plated one more.

Adelphi would strand two on base in the home half of the inning before the Dolphins struck for three more in the fifth.  Polemeni singled home another CSI run and AJ Vigliotti doubled home a pair to make it 10-1.  Adelphi got three back in the same inning to make it 10-4, but this was the last time they would mount a serious threat.  A three-run homer by Vigliotti put three on the board for the Dolphins in the seventh, and Vigliotti later drove home another run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.  Finally, the Dolphins scored seven runs in an inning for the second time in the ninth.  Chris Bartnik and Flashner each singled home a run, two more scored on hit batters, and both Kehoe and Vigliotti delivered additional run-scoring hits.

The Dolphins finished with a season-high 18 hits, and four different players finished with three or more.  Both Kehoe and Flashner finished with four hits and Polemeni and Vigliotti each had three.  The CSI bullpen allowed just one run on three hits in 4.1 innings as starter Francesco Bonvini finished one out shy of earning the win.

Next up for the Dolphins is their conference opener against Molloy.  Contingent upon weather, that game may be played either Thursday or Friday.
