BASEBALL WALKS OFF IN TENTH INNING AGAINST MOLLOY TO WIN CONFERENCE OPENER, 8-7

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team picked up their second straight win earlier today as they walked off in the tenth inning of their conference opener against Molloy University, 8-7.  The Dolphins scored four in the first inning to take an early lead, but the Lions eventually went in front against the CSI bullpen in the seventh.  CSI got even with four consecutive walks in the bottom half of the inning, and the Dolphins would ultimately win in in the tenth with one final walk to force home the winning run.  The Dolphins end the day 6-16 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win.  Molloy falls to 9-8 and begins conference play 0-1.

After a quick first inning for starter Ryan Kehoe, the Dolphins came out strong with four runs in the first inning.  Each of the first four Dolphins reached base in the inning, and RBI hits by AJ Vigliotti and TJ Laino brought home the first three runs.  A Vincent Weigele sacrifice fly brought home one more and the Dolphins took a 4-0 lead into the second.  Molloy would score three times in the inning that followed with two coming on RBI base hits and the third coming on a throwing error.  The CSI lead remained one until the fourth when Chris Polemnei drove a two-run homer over the left-center field wall to make it 6-3.  That lead stood until the seventh when a Sean Welsh two-run shot brought Molloy back to within one.

Now leading 6-5, the Dolphins went to the bullpen for the first time, and the first four Lions to face Nick Pusinelli all reached base.  A pair of singles and two walks brought home both the tying and go-ahead runs against the CSI reliever to put Molloy in front, 7-6    From here, the Dolphins turned to Alex Martinez who quickly recorded the final two outs of the frame.  Trailing by one with two outs in the home half of the inning, four straight Dolphins were walked to bring home the tying run.  CSI would get a runner to third base with one out in the eighth and would move the winning run into scoring position in the ninth, but the Dolphins would fail to score in both innings.

Working his third inning of scoreless relief, Jack Kehoe faced the minimum in the tenth to set the stage for a CSI rally.  Jandel Brito opened the tenth with a single before Kehoe struck out looking.  Polemeni then singled to advance Brito to second before a walk of Vigliotti loaded the bases.  With nowhere to put TJ Laino, the Lions issued one final walk to force home the winning run.  With their ninth walk of the game, the Dolphins took the win, 8-7.

In addition to drawing nine walks, the Dolphins finished with 12 hits.  Three belonged to Polemeni, and both Jaden Waterman and Birto had two.  Four separate Dolphins, Polemeni, Laino, Vigliotti, and Brito, drove in two runs.  In relief, Kehoe extended his scoreless innings streak to four to start the season while earning his first collegiate win.

The Dolphins will have Friday off before resuming their four-game weekend set against Molloy with a doubleheader on Saturday.
