DOLPHINS FALL TO GEORGIAN COURT IN FIRST-EVER MATCHUP, 16-8

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team fell to Georgian Court University in the first-ever meeting between the two programs earlier tonight as the Lions defeated the Dolphins, 16-8.  The loss dropped CSI to 2-8 on the year and Georgian Court improved to 1-3 on the season.  The win for the Lions was not only their first of the 2025 season, but it was also the first in the history of their newly-formed Baseball program.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead in the second inning when Jandel Brito singled home Jaden Waterman to make it 1-0.  However, the CSI lead was short-lived as the Lions responded with a four-spot in the next half-inning.  Despite just one hit in the inning, two walks, an error, two wild pitches, and a passed ball brought home four runs.  Still trailing 4-1 in the home fourth inning, the Dolphins put together a four-run two-out rally.  Following a single earlier in the inning, a walk put two on base for Chris Polemeni.  The sophomore singled in one run, TJ Laino doubled home another, and AJ Vigliotti singled home two more to make it 5-4.

Trailing by one in the fifth, The Lions took the lead for good with three two-out runs on three hits.  In the sixth, the Lions doubled their lead to four, and the Lions broke the game open with four more runs in the seventh.  Finally, each team scored three in the eighth, but the Dolphins never got within striking distance again.

Seven Dolphins recorded a hit in the game, and both Laino and Vigliotti drove in two runs.  Laino reached base four times as well, and he also recorded the lone extra-base hit for CSI.  Of the first four runs the Dolphins allowed, just one was earned.  Out of the bullpen, Anthony Salmonese was the only pitcher not scored upon as he pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

With tomorrow's doubleheader against Lincoln University postponed, the Dolphins will next be in action on Friday against Caldwell University.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
