MOLLOY PULLS AWAY IN LATE INNINGS TO TAKE SEASON SERIES FROM DOLPHINS

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team dropped their season series finale against Molloy University at the CSI Baseball Complex earlier today as Lions pulled away from CSI in the late innings to take the win, 16-4.  Molloy improves to 12-8 on the season and 3-1 in conference play as the Dolphins fall to 6-19 on the year and 1-3 against the ECC.

Just as the Dolphins did in the first inning of the series opener on Thursday, Molloy opened the series finale with four runs in the first inning.  The Lions rally was helped along by a pair of CSI errors, and Dolphins starter Michael Furst was charged with just two earned runs.  From here, Furst did not allow another run until the sixth, but Lions starter Ryan Hynes was equally strong through the first four innings.  Still trailing 4-0 in the fifth, CSI would get on the board for the first time behind RBI hits from Jandel Brito and Michael Flashner.  With their lead cut in half, Molloy responded with a five-spot in the sixth.  A five-hit inning coupled with a key Dolphins error gave Molloy a seven-run lead that would grow later in the game.  The Dolphins did get a run back in both the sixth and eighth, but a huge ninth inning propelled Molloy to a 16-4 win.

AJ Vigliotti and Jaden Waterman each finished with two hits for the Dolphins, and Waterman also drove in a run.  A victim of tough luck throughout his outing, Furst took the loss for the Dolphins allowing eight runs, five earned, in 5.2 innings.  Anthony Salmonese pitched the lone scoreless inning out of the bullpen for the Dolphins, and Arelius Vendrell made his CSI debut in the ninth.

The Dolphins will be back in action at the CSI Baseball Complex on Wednesday as they face Bloomfield College in non-conference play at 3:30 PM.
