DOLPHINS ERASE FOUR-RUN DEFICIT TO DEFEAT BLOOMFIELD, 9-4

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team erased an early four-run deficit to defeat the Bloomfield College Bears earlier tonight as they came from behind to win, 9-4.  The Dolphins improve to 7-19 with the victory, and Bears remain winless at 0-14.  The CSI win is their first against the Bears since 2022 and snaps a three-game Bloomfield winning streak against the Dolphins.  CSI also snaps a three-game losing skid with the victory heading into a four-game conference series with Queens this weekend.

The Dolphins fell behind early as a throwing error brought home an unearned run to open the scoring.  Bloomfield then scored twice more in the second as a wild pitch and three base hits brought home another two runs.  CSI would go to the bullpen in the third, and Anthony Salmonese issued two walks upon entering the game.  He would then strike out the next batter, but the third strike came on a wild pitch that allowed both runners to advance.  Another strikeout came on a dropped third strike moments later, but the Dolphins could not complete the putout at first base.  This allowed another unearned run to score on an errant throw and put the Bears ahead by four.

Trailing 4-0, the Dolphins began their comeback in the home half of the third inning.  One out hits by Jack Kehoe and Chris Polemeni put two on base for the middle of the order.  This is where JJ Hunter cut the Bloomfield lead in half with a 2-RBI triple.  The score remained 4-2 entering the home fourth, and Michael Flashner cut the lead to one with a two-out RBI single to score Jake Giavannone.  Within one entering the home fifth, the Dolphins tied the score on an RBI single by AJ Vigliotti.  Moments later, a sacrifice fly by Hunter gave CSI the lead for good, 5-4.  The Dolphins would break the game open in the sixth behind a 2-RBI triple by Polemeni and a sacrifice fly by Hunter.  CSI would later add another insurance run in the eighth as Hunter drove in his fifth with an RBI single.  Salmonese and Michael Santoriello would combine to allow just one unearned run in the final six innings of the game, and the Dolphins went on to secure the win, 9-4.

Flashner led the Dolphins with three hits and both Hunter and Polemeni finished with two.  Hunter's 5 RBI also led the team and Giavannone stole four bases off the bench.  Salmonese earned the win behind 3.1 innings of work without allowing an earned run.  Santoriello picked up the save with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, and the two Dolphins relievers combined to strike out 11.

The Dolphins resume conference play this weekend against Queens College.  The Dolphins and Knights will play the first of four games in their series on Friday in Flushing.
