POLEMENI'S HISTORIC THREE HOME RUN GAME HELPS LEAD DOLPHINS TO SWEEP OF QUEENS

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team scored a pair of conference wins against Queens College in today's doubleheader at the CSI Baseball Complex as the Dolphins defeated the Knights 11-10 and 8-6.  In game one, Chris Polemeni became the third Dolphin to homer three times in a game, and CSI survived a Queens rally in the ninth to win, 11-10.  In game two, the Dolphins built an early lead, but the Knights rallied to make it a one-run game in the sixth. Once again, the Dolphins survived a late threat in the final inning to win, 8-6.

GAME 1
The Dolphins scored twice in the bottom half of the first inning with the first run coming home on the first of Polemeni's three home runs.  JJ Hunter later picked up a two-out RBI single to make it a two-run game, and and Dolphins erupted for four more in the next inning.  Two walks, three CSI hits, and two Knights errors combined to help the Dolphins to a four-run inning.  The big blow was a two-run shot by Polemeni, his second of the game.  The 6-0 CSI lead stood until the fourth when Queens scored for the first time on a one-out sacrifice fly. The Knights then plated three runs in the fifth on a bases-clearing double by Matt Filip.  Now leading 6-4, the Dolphins scored four runs in the fifth on four more hits.  Jack Kehoe delivered a sacrifice fly, and Polemeni, Anthony Sutera, and Vincent Weigele all registered RBI hits.

Queens continued their comeback bid with two runs in the sixth, but the Dolphins went in front 11-6 on Polemeni's third home run of the game in the seventh.  The home run not only put the Dolphins ahead by five, but Polemeni also tied the single-game home runs record with his third long ball.  This would be the last time the Dolphins would score, and the game would enter the ninth 11-6.  After getting the first out of the inning, CSI reliever Jack Kehoe put two on with a walk and a hit batter.  Three hits and a sacrifice fly brought home three runs, and the CSI lead was cut to one, 11-10.  With the tying run on base and the go-ahead run at the plate, Kehoe struck out the final batter he would face to earn the Dolphins a critical conference win.

Polemeni was 4-4 at the plate with three home runs, a double, and 5 RBI.  AJ Vigliotti also added three hits, and Sutera added two more.  Michael Furst earned his first win of the season allowing four runs on six hits in 5.0 innings.  Ryan Fiore added a scoreless inning of relief as well, and Kehoe earned his first save.

GAME 2
The Dolphins went ahead 2-0 in the first inning of game two behind a 2-RBI single by Hunter.  The Dolphins then put together a huge second inning with four hits and two walks as they scored five times.  RBI hits by Polemeni, Kehoe, and Hunter plated four, and a Jaden Waterman sacrifice fly brought home one more.  Now trailing 7-0, the Knights got one back in the third, fourth, and fifth inning.  After holding the Dolphins scoreless for three consecutive frames, Queens plated three more in the sixth to make it a one-run.  Looking for insurance, Vigliotti opened the home sixth with a walk, and Waterman doubled him to third.  With two in scoring position, a sacrifice fly by Hunter put the Dolphins in front by two, 8-6.  Queens would eventually bring the tying run to the plate against Aidan Kielty in the seventh, but the CSI reliever closed the door on Queens with a game-ending strikeout.

Sutera went 3-3 in game two and Hunter drove in five runs.  Vigliotti drew three of the six walks issued to CSI hitters, and eight of the nine CSI starters reached base at least once.  Alex Martinez earned his second win allowing five earned runs in 5.0 innings.  Kielty also picked up a six-out save allowing two hits and a walk in his two innings of work.

The series between the Dolphins and Knights concludes tomorrow with a single nine-inning game at 12:00 PM.
