TRACK & FIELD SETS SEVEN NEW PROGRAM RECORDS AT TOWSON AND MONMOUTH

Towson, MD & West Long Branch, NJ - The College of Staten Island Track & Field Team began two days of competition this weekend at separate meets as they competed on day one of both the Towson Invitational and Monmouth Season Opener on Friday.  Two program records fell for the Dolphins in the two meets, and three more personal bests were achieved in a strong start to the weekend.  The following day, the Dolphins broke five additional program records on their way to one of the most successful weekends of the Track & Field season.

FRIDAY
The Dolphins set a pair of program records in the 400 Hurdles at the Towson Invitational plus and additional personal best in the same event.  For the CSI men, Jeremiah Downer set a new record with a time of 59.00 seconds in the event, and for the CSI women, Adonijah Washington set a new program record with a time of 1:10.56.  Also setting a new personal best in the event was Alexandrea Jackson with a time of 1:15.54.  Also at the Towson Invitational, Skylar Pointer achieved a season-best distance in the Shot Put with a 10.83m mark.  At the Monmouth Season Opener, Ava Thompson achieved a season best in the Discus with a distance of 34.04m.

SATURDAY

On the heels of her record-setting performance in the 400 Hurdles on Friday, Washington added another new program record in the Triple Jump on Saturday.  The freshman continued her stellar season with a distance of 11.49m in the event.  Jackson then followed her personal best in the 400 Hurdles on Friday with a record time of 1:03.50 in the 400-Meter Dash on Saturday.  Finally, the CSI women added their final record in the 4x100m Relay.  Alexandra Tavarez, Inioluwa Ogunfowora, Precious Dillon, and Alexis Doyle posted a time of 51.62 to claim the new program record.  For the CSI men, two new records were set on Saturday.  First, Wayne Stephenson set a new program record in the 5K with a time of 16:30.01.  Next, Downer set his second record of the weekend when he posted a distance of 6.63m in the Long Jump. 

In addition to the seven program records set this weekend, the Dolphins achieved many personal bests at both meets.  Nicholas Runfola and Sam Whelan both set personal best marks in the 100 and 200 Meter.  For the women, Ogunfowora and Dillon both achieved their best time in the 100 Meter as well.  Chris Vazquez and Chrisopher O'Brien both set a PR in the 400 Hurdles.  O'Brien, Kayla Larsen, and Elizabeth Nicotra all achieved PR's in the 400 Meter Dash.  Ibrahima Diallo and Angelina Guerriero posted their best times in the 800 Meter, and both Stephenson and Josmy Cerda posted a PR in the 1500.


The Dolphins will next be in action when they spend two days at the University of Delaware Invitational next weekend.
