Game Recap: Baseball |

CALDWELL TAKES TWO FROM DOLPHINS TO SWEEP SEASON SERIES

Caldwell, NJ - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team dropped a pair of games to Caldwell University earlier today as the Cougars earned a sweep of the five-game season series with the Dolphins.  In game one, the Cougars defeated the Dolphins via shutout in a 6-1 game.  Game two once again saw the Cougars score a decisive victory as they took the win over the Dolphins by a score of 11-4.  The Dolphins end the day 2-11 and the Cougars are now 6-1.

GAME 1
The first major threat of the game came in the top of the third inning when three straight CSI singles loaded the bases with just one out.  However, the Dolphins would fail to score allowing the Cougars an opportunity to plate the game's first run.  A two-out walk got things started for the Cougars in the home third, and a single then put runners on first and third.  From here, a steal of second created an opportunity for a steal of home to get Caldwell on the board.  CSI would strand the bases loaded for a second consecutive inning in the fourth, and the Cougars would grow their lead to three with two runs in the fifth.  In the sixth, the Dolphins would strand the bases loaded for a third time, and the Cougars broke the game open with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Despite several opportunities, the Dolphins would fail to score, and Caldwell took game one by a final score of 6-0.

The Cougars outhit the Dolphins by just one, 6-5, and five different Dolphins recorded a single hit.  Aidan Kielty got the start and took the loss allowing 3 runs on six hits in 5.0 innings.

GAME 2
The Cougars surged ahead early and never looked back as they score twice in the first, once in the second, and four times in the third.  Trailing 7-0, the Dolphins got two back in the fourth when Chris Polemeni and AJ Vigliotti each delivered RBI hits.  The Cougars got one of the two runs back in the home half of the same inning, but Chris Bartnik quickly made it a five-run game with his first career solo home run in the fifth.  Jandel Brito then cut the Caldwell lead to four with an RBI single in the sixth, but the Dolphins would never get any closer than this.  The Cougars added two insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning, and the Dolphins never scored again in an 11-4 loss.

Once again the Dolphins finished the game with five hits, but this time Caldwell registered 14.  Behind those 14 hits, the Cougars managed to score in all but one inning.
