BASEBALL GETS BACK INTO WIN COLUMN WITH DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT AGAINST TIGERS

Philadelphia, PA - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team got back into the win column earlier today as they earned a split of their doubleheader against Holy Family University.  In game one, the Dolphins scored each of the first eight runs on their way to a 9-1 victory.  The Dolphins cut a three-run Tigers lead to one in game two, but the tying run was cut down trying to score for the final out in a 4-3 defeat.  The Dolphins end the day 3-12 and the Tigers finish the day 2-5.

GAME 1
Each of the first three CSI batters reached base in game one and AJ Vigliotti opened the scoring with an RBI single.  The Dolphins would go on to score two more in the frame and led 3-0 after one.  The Dolphins would also score three in the fourth on RBI hits by Michael Flashner and Chris PolemeniJack Kehoe then chased home two more in the fifth with a 2-RBI single, and this was more than enough run support for CSI starter Alex Martinez.  Martinez allowed just three hits and walked five in 5.0 scoreless innings, and the Dolphins would go on to win by a final score of 9-1.

Flashner, Polemeni, and Vigliotti all finished the game with two hits and the Dolphins collected nine hits in the win.  Flashner and Kehoe each drove in two runs, and the Dolphins drew seven walks in the game.  CSI pitching held the Tigers to just one run on four hits and Martinez earned his first victory of the season.

GAME 2
Just as the Dolphins did during game one, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead in game two.  Holy Family scored twice on a 2-RBI single in the first, but the Dolphins got one of those runs back on another RBI hit by Vigliotti in the third.  The Tigers would score once in the fourth and once in the fifth to go ahead 4-1, but the Dolphins would chip away in the sixth and seventh.  Back-to-back hits opened the inning including a double by Vigliotti and an RBI single by JJ Hunter.  Following a fly out, Hunter was picked off of second base before a strikeout ended the inning.  Trailing by two entering the seventh, three one-out walks loaded the bases for the Dolphins.  A fielder's choice ground ball scored a run, and Vigliotti delivered a hit with runners on first and second.  Flashner, the lead runner on the play, attempted to score the tying run from second base, but he was thrown out at home to end the game, 4-3.

Flashner and Kehoe added two more hits in game two and Vigliotti finished the game 3-4.  Michael Furst went 5.0 innings as the CSI starter and allowed four runs on six hits.  CSI outhit HFU in the game 8-6, but Tigers pitching struck out nine Dolphins in the win.

The Dolphins are back in action at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park on Tuesday night against Dominican University of New York.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
