Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MEN'S BASKETBALL SEES SEASON END IN ECC CHAMPIONSHIP SEMIFINAL VS DAEMEN, 90-57

Amherst, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team saw their season come to an end earlier tonight as they fell to the Daemen University Wildcats in the East Coast Conference Championship Semifinal, 90-57.  The season ends for the Dolphins on the heels of their first-ever Division II postseason victory on Wednesday night, and the Wildcats continue their unbeaten season with a berth in tomorrow's ECC Championship game.

Aaron Goldstein helped get the Dolphins off to a fast offensive start connecting on a pair of three-pointers in the first four minutes of the game.  The second of those threes put the Dolphins ahead by one, but Daemen answered back by scoring the next five points.  After falling behind for a brief stretch, the Dolphins took the lead back with 8:36 to go before halftime on a three from Messiah Mallory.  Now leading by three, Daemen once again scored four straight to regain the lead.  However, Goldstein quickly scored four straight to put the Dolphins back in front, 24-21.  Daemen would go on to lead by as many as four, but the Dolphins battled back to tie the score at 30 with 2:27 remaining before the break.  From there, the Dolphins would not score for the remainder of the half, and a 6-0 run put the Wildcats ahead 36-30 at the half.

The Wildcats quickly opened the second-half scoring with a three, but the Dolphins did not allow the lead to grow beyond single-digits.  That changed following a CSI turnover at the 14:00 mark which allowed Daemen to go ahead by eleven on an uncontested fastbreak dunk.  Back-to-back Wildcat threes, one resulting in a four-point play, then put Daemen ahead by 17.  The four-point play ignited what ultimately became a 14-0 Wildcats run that spanned nearly four minutes.  This put the Dolphins in a 24-point hole that they could not overcome as the Wildcats went on to win, 90-57.

Goldstein was the only Dolphin in double-figures with 20, and the Dolphins shot 38% as a team after a red-hot start from the field.  The Wildcats shot 60% from the floor and nearly 60% on their 22 three-point attempts.

The season ends for the Dolphins with the departure of four seniors who played in their final game tonight, Shemar Latty, Chris Clancy, Justin Zieris and Messiah Mallory.  The team's win against Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday night also marked the first-ever Division II postseason victory for the program, and was the start of a third straight berth in the ECC playoffs.  Next year, the Dolphins roster expects to see the return of three starters, but the departure of their four seniors will leave big roles to be filled for the 2025-2026 season.
