BASEBALL SCORES 13 RUNS TO TAKE SERIES OPENER FROM SPARTANS

Sparkill, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team scored 13 runs in their series opener against St. Thomas Aquinas College earlier today as they defeated the Spartans, 13-7.  With the win, the Dolphins improve to 13-23 on the season and 7-6 in conference play.  The Spartans drop to 9-24 on the year and 4-9 against the ECC.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the first inning after Chris Polemeni doubled and stole third to begin the game.  Jack Kehoe then scored Polemeni on a sacrifice fly, but the inning would end with a line drive double play.  STAC would take their only lead in the bottom half of the inning as they scored a run on three hits helped along by a CSI error.  Trailing 2-1 in the third, four walks brought home the tying run for CSI, and the Dolphins would later take a 3-2 lead on an RBI double by Polemeni in th fourth.  That 3-2 lead would stand until the sixth when the Dolphins broke the game open with a five-run inning.  RBI hits by JJ Hunter and Jandel Brito were among the three CSI hits in the inning, and two Spartan errors helped prolong the CSI rally.

STAC would get one run back in the sixth, but the Dolphins would score four more on four hits in the seventh.  AJ Vigliotti doubled home the first CSI run, and Jaden Waterman delivered the biggest blow of the game with a three-run homer.  Now behind 12-3, the Spartans scored three in the seventh and one more in the eighth.  CSI also scored once in the eighth on an RBI single by Kehoe, and the Dolphins would go on to win by a final score of 13-7.

Polemeni, Kehoe, and TJ Laino each finished the game with three hits and Waterman led the Dolphins with 4 RBI.  CSI also drew eleven walks in the game to go along with their 16 hits.  Ryan Kehoe got the start for the Dolphins and allowed 5 earned runs on 11 hits in 6.2 innings.  Jack Kehoe came on in relief and pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing just 1 run on 2 hits.

The Dolphins will be off tomorrow before continuing their series with the Spartans on Saturday at the CSI Baseball Complex.
